Our Music

Rugby Community Choir is Rugby's own community choir - we meet on alternate Tuesday's at Avon Valley School Performing Arts College (click here for dates). We want to encourage all people in Rugby who enjoy singing to come along and join us. Our mission is to have members of our local community sharing this enjoyment and to provide opportunity for all who wish to sing as part of a choral group.

We sing anything from Maori lullabies to West End Show tunes, from Louisiana gospel to experimental chorales and we peform a number of concerts around Rugby each year. We enjoy getting together after rehearsals and concerts and regularly support community and fundraising events as well as social gatherings.  Below are a some events from earlier years and more recent events are here

Events in 2018

The Choir continued with their normal schedule of community and charity performances in 2018.

However, the highlight for us was the 10th anniversary celebrations.  Our concert for this was part of the Rugby Festival of Culture in June.  Dressed up in our most colourful summery outfits the Sunny Sing-a Long performance in the Rugby Baptist Church to raise money for the Myton Hospice charity (see more photos on Term Music page).  In October we handed them a cheque for £725 which was reported in the local papers

In July we supported the One World Concert at the Methodist Church and then a well earned summer break.

The autumn/winter season saw a hectic time for the choir. We were  involved in a remembrance event at Harborough Magna's All Saints Church in November. This was followed by a busy Christmas schedule which included performances at the Jacea Club, Draycote Water and Rugby library during which we raised money (over £200) for our nominated charity in 2018/19 - The Alzheimer's Society.  Also our performance at Sainsburys raised funds for their charity, Blood Bikes - thanks to everyone who supported us.

Events in 2017

The Choir was busy in 2017!!

In April we took part in the Festival of Choirs in Nuneaton.  This was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our work in front of other choirs from across the country.

We were invited back to perform again for a group of visually impaired people in Bilton which was much appreciated.

June saw us performing in the sunshine at the Victorian Fayre in Newbold with a medley of summer songs. Later that month we had our first performance at the lovely church in Withybrook.

We were part of the opening celebrations for the Festival of Culture in Rugby library. Also as part of the festival, we held a concert for the local community in St Peters and St Johns with some lovely accompaniment from our guest flautist, Lisa.

Other events included a concert at Bilton House, a wedding and a Christmas concert at Draycote.

Godiva Awakes Project

Godiva awakes was a project for the cultural Olympiad and we were chosen to welcome the enormous Lady Godiva as it arrived in Rugby pulled by a large number of Cyclists. Rugby Community Choir sang her Anthem which was composed especially for the occasion and was sang at each stop point on her Journey to the Olympic site in London.
